Very mixed opinions : John Louis Home JLH-526 Deluxe 16-Inch Deep Closet Shelving System, Red Mahogany
I am a mechanical engineer and an accomplished do-it-yourself'er, and I found this closet system to be a challenge. Even though I was installing it in one of their standard configurations, I had to do more measuring and cutting than I would have expected. It took me about 6 hours to install it. I installed a second unit in about 3 hours.
The overall quality is good, although there were some dings and dents in the shelves, and there were a couple screws missing. I didn't call the company to complain, since I didn't want to wait for replacements. The wood is pine, as noted, so it isn't the hardest stuff in the world. While drilling, I noticed that some pieces were softer than others, but the finish was consistent from piece to piece. The shelves were very straight and square, and the brackets were well-made.
I wasn't thrilled with how the hanger bars mounted to the wall and brackets - I think they could have designed this part better. Measuring is critical, too - I found my stacked shelves fit too loosely in the 2nd closet I installed, since my measurements were a hair off. Also, I thought some of the screws weren't as heavy-duty as I would have liked. It seems sturdy, though, and I expect it to hold up well.
All in all, this closet system is very nice, but if you aren't confident in your abilities, don't even attempt installing it yourself.
